Health risk assessment

A documented method, not an opinion.

Every Health Risk Assessment follows the same five-step chain, producing a per-work-area hazard table with rated risk, and a defensible record of how each rating was reached.

The five-step chain

The four hazard classes

Every work area is reviewed against all four, because a workforce is rarely exposed to only one.

Physical stressors

Noise, inadequate illumination, radiation sources, poor ventilation and air quality.

Chemical stressors

Hazardous chemical substances in the workplace: dusts, vapours and fumes.

Ergonomic stressors

Poor workstation and task design, and the injuries that follow from it.

Environmental & facilities

Environmental pollution or exposure, and damaged or unsanitary facilities.

What you receive

All identified hazards are listed per work area or task in table format, with a rating allocated to the risk in terms of both the potential health effect and the anticipated or measured level of exposure.

Recommendations and actions follow: the medical surveillance required, additional or amended control measures, and personal protective equipment. The assessment forms part of the occupational hygiene and health plan, together with a monitoring and review schedule.

The join to medical surveillance

The fifth stated objective of every risk assessment we run is, in the words of the statute, a recommendation on the medical surveillance required. That is what connects the hazard on the floor to the tests in the medical.
